I am not a vet. I have just searched a lot, read a lot of veterinary books, and find the following good natural remedies that helped my cats, and were approved by the vets who treat and check our cats.
How to help a CRF catWhen my Émile started to be sick, he had very high creatinine and BUN levels. He was a cat that needed a dialysis, and his prognosis was very poor. He was expected to die along with Purrdy. In fact, when Purrdy died, he had stopped eating, had a pinched look, and was very miserable, yelling at night because of the high urea and creatinine amount. I started to give Émile IQ fluid every day. Then I found, after much research, that nettle is a very good plant and is not harmful. You have to be very careful, because a cat with kidney disease can't tolerate a lot of things. I gave him simeticone (you can find alumin hydroxide) in order to get rid of phosphorus and help the stomach ulcers, along with slippery elm, which helped him to digest and was soothing; along with IQ fluid it helped a regular intestinal function. Then I rotated several remedies: Invigor Plus syrup that helps to strengthen kidneys and liver, is a good prevention for stone bladder and gives energy; E, C, B group Vits and potassium supplement; couch grass to soothe the pain due to renal colics. I had to add tablets of olive extract and hawthorn in order to lower his high blood pressure, cleavers to clean up the lymphatic system and the inner organs, and soy lecithin to lower the high cholesterol level, which is common in cats with kidney failure. More recently, I switched Invigor Plus with ortosiphon. Food is basically important: not too many proteins but of excellent qualities, add vegetables and cereals, and don't give dried food. Cats with kidney failure drink a lot, dried food is not good for cats that undergo dehydration. With constant hydration, vitamins and mineral supplements, and natural helps to lower blood pressure, help the heart and detoxify the body and help kidneys and liver, he is still alive, and although he still cries every now and then, he eats and has a decent quality of life. |

How to help a cat with pancreas cancer /pancreatitisThis is one of the saddest, most painful things a cat can have. The worst side of it, is the acute and constant pain, and the fact that the blood work don't usually show anything wrong. Alison had only high cholesterol level. The rest was perfect. She seemed to be a very healthy cat at the blood work, whereas she was miserable, shivering, looking for warmth, unwilling to eat, to move, often vomiting, sometimes she passed yellow stools. Her coat, that had been the most beautiful fur of all our Ragdolls, like pure silk, was dried and full of dandruff and she had dermatitis, which she tried to help by laying in the sunlight. Only when she was scanned, we got the diagnosis. It was a hopeless fight. But I tried to help her in all ways. First of all, the soy lecithin helped to lower her cholesterol level to nearly normal values. Moreover, I gave her mushrooms tablets to help to fight cancer toxins. Then, she was given a very light diet, enzymes to help the digestion, slippery elm with mint oil to help against nausea, and tablets with yarrow, prickly ash bark, cleavers to clean up the lymphatic system and the inner organs, elder flowers to lower the fever and ease the pain, burdock, popolar bark and uva ursi, all made by vets. It helped her to detoxify her body and to soothe the pain. Of course, she was given vitamins and mineral supplements and IQ fluid, as she was very dehydrated. Every now and then she was given only a meal in the morning and them kept under IQ fluid for the rest of the day, in order to let the pancreas rest. Don't get confused by cats with pancreatitis / pancreas cancer that are hungry: it is due to stomach ulcers, they feel the grip of acid and need to eat in order to soothe it. She lived three months more. It sounds poor, but three months more for a cat with pancreas cancer, spent in a passable way, are a lot. The vets said they had never seen an animal to live so long with such a quality of life and such a severe illness. |

How to help an HCM catFirst of all you must follow the cardiologist's advice. What to give? Beta blockers, benazepril, furosemide etc etc. Then you can add natural remedies to help : Coenzime Q10 30 mg, better in oil capsules, to strengthen the heart ; hawthorn and olive extract, or mistletoe, to lower blood pressure and ensure a good circulation, and prevent water retention. For cats that have a low blood pressure and are in severe heart failure, better use rosemary tea instead of mistletoe. Resveratrol is a very powerful remedy that strengthen the circulation system and protects the heart. Soy lecithin, omega 3 and most of all nattokinase are good natural blood thinners, as garlic is, but I prefer to use garlic only when cats are at blood clotting risk. Here follow the vet's advice for a chemical blood thinner, such as low molecular weight heparine. Check your cat when the weather is bad and the pressure is low. They look tired and are unwilling to move and eat. In this case, ask the vet, but hawthorn is the remedy that usually helps. You can use cayenne too, but be careful that the cat has eaten. Otherwise it can harm the stomach.
