English information about a German village

Welcome to Basdorf!

Basdorf is a village just north of Berlin in the German State of Brandenburg. It has grown over the years from a small feudal and monastic holding of a few farms, felt the rapid developments of the Industrial revolution, played a part in building the might of the National Socialist army, felt the effects of Soviet style collectivisation, and emerged after the unification of Germany as a vibrant and growing modern community.

What to See in and Around Basdorf

Basdorf lies at the heart of Barnim Naturpark, a National Park of protected landscape that is made up of forest, lakes, fields, and heaths. So nature is all around, whether you enjoy rambling, cycling, bird-watching, or simply relaxing on a lakeside beach. And then of course Berlin is just on the doorstep ...

Basdorf Village Church

Basdorf Church

The oldest surviving structure in Basdorf is the village church.

The first modest church in Basdorf would already have been built when the monks of Lehnin monastery spread Eastwards and cultivated the land east of the river Elbe in the 1200's. The first inhabitants of Basdorf settled around the church seeking shelter in its shade.
